Next full league meeting (please note new venue), when all teams must attend, will be held this Thursday 29th March at The Stand Farm Pub Function Room, Fir Tree Drive North, Croxteth Park, Liverpool L12 0NB at 8.30pm start. Merseyside Youth Association will be attending the meeting to update everybody on progress/next steps regarding the facilities etc at Long Lane. Hoping also that Liverpool County FA will attend this meeting (to be confirmed, but if not this meeting, definitely next month's meeting). Discussions to take place regarding Cup Finals, Committe Cup, midweek fixtures and season close dates, plans for season 2012/2013 including dates for applications etc, 9 or 11 aside for Under 12s, appetite for Under 15s. Due to closure of Jacobs Social Club there was no meeting last month so there is much to discuss at this meeting. The purpose of the meeting is to convey, at the same time, information to all teams/Clubs as the Management Committee does not have time to have 92 separate conversations with each team. Get yourself to the meeting, or apologise in advance to save you being fined - however remember you are only permitted two apologies in the whole season, third or subsequent apology is automatic £10 fine and a conversation with the Management Committee!......you are required to attend!!

REFEREES WANTED - we are currently looking for referees to referee 11 a side football. Are you a referee looking for some games to referee on a Sunday morning? • The Under 14 representative team lost 5-1 away to Springfield JL on Saturday. Congratulations to Springfield JL who fully deserved their victory on the day and we wish them well for the final. Our players gave an excellent account of themselves and perhaps our hitting the post 3 times and the crossbar twice suggests the final scoreline was a little harsh. Many thanks must go to everybody who assisted with the team from managers and players to parents, especially Joe Armitage, Alan, Roy and Kevin and not forgetting Joe's wife who washed the two kits we had.
• The Under 12 representative team lost 8-0 at home to Merseyside & Halewood JL today. Our congratulations go to Merseyside & Halewood JL and we wish them every success in the final. Many thanks to everybody who assisted with the team, especially Kenny who unfortunately had to deal with certain issues nobody should be asked to put up with. I did not get to see the game itself, but understand the players represented the League well. It is unfortunate that football was not the talking point after the match but instead the disgraceful behaviour of adults. The incident that occurred during the match is to be reported to the FA by the match officials and the League will have to respond to any charges in due course. It is not appropriate to assume any outcome in this matter now before any charges are raised and respponded to, but it is appropriate at this time to remind everybody of their responsibilities regarding discipline and behaviour as follows:
• DISCIPLINE/BEHAVIOUR - All Clubs and individual teams are reminded of their responsibilities with regards to discipline and behaviour. Club officials, parents and spectators are reminded that this is a Junior Football League run for children, the rest of us are there to assist with the admin and to provide encouragement to the children. Anybody who considers that being abusive or threatening to anybody whatsoever connected with the Junior Football League in any capacity (eg referees, other spectators etc) is acceptable behaviour is strongly advised that it is not. Clubs and all teams are reminded that they are responsible for the actions of their officials and spectators. Any abusive or threatening behaviour of any kind is unacceptable. Where teams do not wish to play certain opponents through fear of intimidation, there can be no organised football for such teams who intimidate, verbally abuse or threaten opponents. Where referees refuse to referee certain teams as a result of intimidation, verbal abuse and threats, there can be no organised football for such teams who intimidate, verbally abuse or threaten referees. Offending teams will find that there are no fixtures for them where it is not possible for example to provide a referee for their fixtures as a result of their unacceptable behaviour. Action has been taken against teams whose behaviour has been found to be unacceptable. Action is currently being taken against current offending teams. Action will be taken against any team who so offends in the future.

• Congratulations to the Under 12 representative team players and management, who today won 3-2 against Scotland Road JFL. The semi-final draw is, we understand, to be made in the next couple of days by Liverpool County FA with ties due to be played weekend of 3rd/4th March.
• Congratulations to the Under 14 representative team players and management, who today won 4-3 on penalties (scores were level at 1-1 after extra time) against Belle Vale JL. The semi-final draw is, we understand, to be made in the next couple of days by Liverpool County FA with ties due to be played weekend of 3rd/4th March.
• Tesco Cup - Congratulations to Netherton Park who triumphed 3-1 against AFC Liverpool. Birbeck Boys bowed out after a defeat to Woolton.
• This month's League meeting scheduled for 23rd February has been cancelled due to the venue being closed. The meeting will be rescheduled in due course.

• Draw for Under 12 and Under 14 inter-league competition was received last Thursday. Under 12s have been drawn at home -v- Scotland Road JL, and Under 14s have also been drawn at home -v- Belle Vale JL, both fixtures are scheduled to be played this Sunday 12th February - with many thanks to Liverpool County FA for the extremely short notice!!! The Management Committee has appointed Kenny (NSC Under 12s) who is being assisted by Kevin (Metcalf Kitchens Under 12s) to manage the Under 12s team, and Joe (Magna Under 14s) to manage the Under 14s team. The Management Committee is grateful to everybody assisting with the two teams for taking the tasks on at such short notice.

• All games cancelled today due to extremely strong winds. Pitches were playable, but strong winds would have made it a farce and completely unenjoyable for all concerned. In the exposed area of Long Lane playing fields, four grown men examining the pitches were being blown across the pitches and upon returning to the committee room were head-down into the strong wind.

• WKJFL currently has one vacancy at Under 9 and one vacancy at Under 14 age groups for season 2011/2012. All other age groups are full.

• REMINDER - as discussed at League AGM, you will need to provide your own match ball this season. • League Trophy presentation day, for individual player trophies, will take place this Sunday 12th June at Jacobs Sports & Social Club. Under 11, 12 and 13 - 12 noon start, Under 7, 8, 9 and 10 - 1.30pm start.
• All League Winners, KO Cup Winners and Committee Cup Winners need to bring their Cup with them to the presentation to be presented on the day.
• Every team at Under 7 and Under 8 ("fun football") will be presented with trophies for their players as discussed previously. For Under 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 individual player trophies are presented to "Winners" and "Runners-up" in League, KO Cup and Committee Cup competitions.
• Any team unable to attend the presention must make arrangements to collect all individual player trophies on Sunday as follows:- Under 7, 8, 9 and 10 between 2.15pm and 2.45pm, Under 11, 12 and 13 between 1pm and 1.30pm or between 2.15pm and 2.45pm. The date and time of the presentation has been known for almost two months and therefore all teams have had plenty of notice to make arrangements for trophy collection. The trophies are not available in advance of the times above. There is no storage facility at the venue for trophies, nor will Dave or Bob (under any circumstances) be taking such trophies with them for safe keeping for any team! Walton & Kirkdale JFL will not be held responsible for any trophies not collected from the venue at the appointed times.

• DISCIPLINE/BEHAVIOUR - All Clubs and individual teams are reminded of their responsibilities with regards to discipline and behaviour. Club officials, parents and spectators are reminded that this is a Junior Football League run for children, the rest of us are there to assist with the admin and to provide encouragement to the children. Anybody who considers that being abusive or threatening to anybody whatsoever connected with the Junior Football League in any capacity (eg referees, other spectators etc) is acceptable behaviour is strongly advised that it is not. Clubs and all teams are reminded that they are responsible for the actions of their officials and spectators. Any abusive or threatening behaviour of any kind is unacceptable. Where teams do not wish to play certain opponents through fear of intimidation, there can be no organised football for such teams who intimidate, verbally abuse or threaten opponents. Where referees refuse to referee certain teams as a result of intimidation, verbal abuse and threats, there can be no organised football for such teams who intimidate, verbally abuse or threaten referees. Offending teams will find that there are no fixtures for them where it is not possible for example to provide a referee for their fixtures as a result of their unacceptable behaviour. Action has been taken against teams whose behaviour has been found to be unacceptable. Action is currently being taken against current offending teams. Action will be taken against any team who so offends in the future.

ALL GAMES OFF THIS SUNDAY (9th January 2011) - Merseyside Youth Association has closed the Ground on account of "Health & Safety" issues. The recent spell of severe bad weather has caused damage to the water supply at Long Lane playing fields and as such MYA are required to close the Ground. Work is currently ongoing to rectify the situation and it is hoped the Ground will be reopened some time next week.

JIMMY HILL - LEAGUE CHAIRMAN

Jimmy Hill, League Chairman, sadly passed away on Sunday 28th November. Jimmy had been Chairman of the League for 30 years and will be sadly missed by everybody connected to the League and beyond. Funeral is expected to take place at All Saints RC Parish Church, Oakfield Road, Anfield at 12 noon on Thursday 9th December, followed by a service at Anfield Crematorium. As a mark of respect and gratitude for all Jimmy gave to the League, all fixtures for Sunday 5th December are cancelled. Please contact Bob Pendleton on 259 3700 for any further details. Dave Hill (League Secretary) and his family would like to thank everybody for their kind thoughts, words and condolences at this time.

League Rules do not permit any discretion for the Management Committee in respect of the playing of overage players. All games played to date against NSC will be expunged as per League Rules (ie completed less than 75% of their fixtures) - League table now updated to exclude all completed games -v- NSC. The Management Committee has met with the Secretary of NSC and it has been agreed that in order to allow all legitimately signed players of NSC Under 9s to continue playing football, NSC Under 9s are permitted to participate in future games in season 2009/2010 on a "no points awarded" basis.

FRANNY THOMAS - it is with great sadness that we report that Franny Thomas passed away last Thursday. Franny was involved in Junior Football for many years, most recently with Mariners. • CONGRATULATIONS to the Under 12 reps who won 2-0 away at St Helens. They now play Scotland Road away in quarter finals - date and venue to be arranged.

• Torrential downpour and hailstorm at approx 11.30 on Sunday resulted in 7 games being abandoned. Referees abandoned games on account of unfit playing surfaces - ball not rolling its circumference. This was a last resort by the Referees but the decisions to abandon these games were agreed and welcomed by almost everybody involved. These fixtures will be rescheduled and played at a later date. Issue concerning Referees' fees for these abandoned games is being clarified with LCFA.

• New team at Under 8, Sorrento Jnrs, looking to play "spare" Under 8 team each week at Long Lane. If you are Under 8 team scheduled with free week check with Bob Pendleton for possible game against Sorrento Jnrs.
• QUICK REMINDER - Clubs have voted for a "no postponement" rule. As such, you must fulfil your fixture. If you do not fulfil your fixture you must, in accordance with the rules, pay the match fee (equal to the full referee's fee for the match - that is not just your own usual share of the referee's fee but also your scheduled opponent's share of the referee's fee). This rule has been in existence for at least 5 years and is mentioned at least at every other monthly League meeting. W&K JFL has a full complement in terms of its Referee's panel and has managed to maintain this complement whilst other League's have reportedly struggled to provide Referees for each fixture. If you do not agree with the Rule voted in by existing Clubs then you have the opportunity to propose a Rule change up to 21 days before the League's AGM in June each year - if you need assistance with this please speak to a member of the Committee. Rules are not generally permitted to be changed outside of the AGM. If you believe you will be unable to fulfil any future fixture please contact the Committee asap to discuss to see if alternative arrangements, within existing Rules, can be made (eg playing midweek in advance of scheduled fixture).

• Clarence U/15 have resigned from the League on account of lack of players. As Clarence fulfilled less than 75% of their fixtures, all of their results are expunged - Under 15 League Table has been updated to reflect this. The Management Committee would like to wish all connected with Clarence Under 15s very best wishes for the future.
• Under 12 reps team have been drawn away to St Helens. Date of fixture to be arranged - awaiting confirmation of date and time from St Helens.

• KO Cup semi-finals took place. Congratulations to all those who have won through to KO Cup Finals. Finals will take place towards the end of the season - Committee to advise exact date nearer the time.

• Under 11 League Match between Westgarth United and Eden Vale abandoned by Referee - Committee awaiting LCFA decision on matter.
• Early notice - Next League meeting Thursday 29th January at Jacobs Sports & Social Club 8.30pm start. All outstanding League fees must be paid in full - otherwise please speak to Committee in advance of meeting.
• Some 11-a-side League games were called off today at short notice as a result of "waterlogging". Given the short notice and that only some games were postponed, it was not possible to text those teams affected for 09.45 kick-off times. Teams affected for 11.30 kick-off times were sent a text message between 09.30 and 10.00. One or two people were concerned that they were not earlier notified of postponements. The Committee made every effort to get as many games played as possible (more were played than postponed) and this necessitated a late decision on the suitability for Junior Football of the state of the pitches. Wherever possible advance notice of postponements is provided - sometimes late decisions on the pitches is beneficial and other times (as today in limited fixtures) it is not beneficial. Last week, MYA contacted the Committee on Saturday lunchtime to advise that the pitches were "like concrete" and we were asked if we would agree to closure of the ground - we did not agree as we hoped, given the weather forecast, that the pitches would thaw by Sunday morning - a late decision was taken on Sunday morning and every fixture took place.
